Richard George Weingardt, a third generation native
of Colorado, has spent his entire life witnessing the
changes and moods of its landscape. He has long
been curious about the Indians, the pioneers, and this
majestic land they traveled, worked and settled.
His expressions on canvas burst into life as his feelings
for these people and this land are vividly reflected in
his oil paintings. Many of his works emulate the land
as the natives, as well as the immigrants, must have
experienced it.
His works hang in the lobbies of several institutions
and businesses; and in private art collections.
Weingardt is the author of a history book,
Sound the Charge, an account of Colorado's last
significant Indian battle at Summit Springs. This
battleground is on the High Plains of northeastern
Colorado, near Sterling where he was born and
raised. This area is the backdrop of many of his
paintings.
